The Village Board adopted updated model building codes. Starting October 1, 2009, plans submitted to the Building & Zoning Department for permit review shall comply with the following codes: 2006 International Building Code, 2006 International Residential Code, 2006 International Property Maintenance Code, 2006 Mechanical Code, 2004 Illinois State Plumbing Code, 2005 National Electric Code, 2006 International Fire Code, 2006 International Energy Conservation Code and 2006 International Fuel Gas Code.
Most notably, the new revisions include the requirement for fire suppression systems in new single-family detached homes.
Please be sure to alert your design professionals and your contractors to these code changes. Permits that have already been issued or are currently under review prior to the October 1, 2009 will continue under the 2000 code.
Copies of the Codes are available in the Building & Zoning Department for review and for purchase. The 2006 Building Codes will soon be available on the Village website (volz.org) under Municipal Code. Please check back.
